Df90 thermostat
I rang my dealer today to book in my 300 hour service on my suzik 90 and they said the termastate would just be inspected and not replaced - how long can I expect to get out of a thermast? They are $90 is it worth just replacing it or should it last more like 600 hours? I would hate for it to fail on a big remote trip or a long way offshore?

Re: Df90 thermostat
If it fails ie wont open causing your engine to overheat you can just remove it to get you home. Your engine just wont run as efficiently because it wont get up to proper operating temp. Easy to test it yourself too, just take it out and drop it into a cup of hot water and see if it opens.

Cant see why it wouldnt last for yonks either, i reckon itd be more the sort of part that would fail due to age more than hours of use because its just a wax or something similar that expands when hot opening the thermostat.

Im sure itll be fine, also if the dealer reckons its only worth inspecting then they are probably right, boat dealers up here aren't shy about slugging you with extra costs.

If you fish the Daly a lot, you'll need to replace it every couple of years due to the calcium build up.

Re: Df90 thermostat
I run a DF 115 and have only replaced my thermostat once at about 800 hrs.
Got near 1200 hrs now.
That was because it had become gunked up with sand from getting stuck on a mud bar.
Only replaced it because it was old.
As Ajay said if you have a problem with it take it out, its only 3 bolts and easy to get to even on the water.
If you do replace it keep the old one as a back up.
