Catch them trolling for barra in freshwater, lures need to be near the bottom, fight like a wet sock, have not tried eating one.

Twaz only a matter of time before this question was asked on here :D

Yep, small lures near the bottom. They apparently taste great, and are farmed in Queensland.

Always get them at Corroboree, working gulps out of structure.

they taste great... for a fresh water fish they are probably one of the tastiest .nice flesh but not very big fillets .. our sand whiting is pretty good as well

Caught them at corroboree on lures, rubbers and trawling hard bodys.
Also got quite a few fishing around the maraki crossing using prawn baits while chasing sootys with the kids.
Cooked a large one on the camp barby there once and it was very nice.
here is a pic of one caught at corroboree.

X2 the Finniss fresh, up the top past the rockbars I've seen a few sitting on underwater snags pretending to be a branch, got a nice one at 4 mile once on a popper...seems they'll take anything if you put it infront of their face when they are hungry

Managed a couple in Yellow waters over the years. Casting weedless plastics into the lillies and weeds. Seemed to find them in one spot in particular, left from the ramp then turn right and along the left hand bank and lilly patch. Never eaten one though

That's a stonker!

As others have said I have caught them from 4 mile to Finniss in the fresh water mostly on small lures. Most of mine have come from the edges in among the structure.

Most fresh water billabongs and rivers have them. Use small rubbers especially prawn immitations and drag them over logs and snags near the bottom. Weedless obviously helps. I found the zman prawns work best for them. Sheeby did a post on hear of a trip we did to corroboree. It has most of the species available in the billabong. Do a search on his posts.
