Hi Fishos,
When you guys and girls go off shore or out wide who do you contact to record your trip?.
Where i was living last we had the VMR (Voluntary Marine Rescue) who we would radio into and let them know people on board and destinations and expected
ETA back into the harbour.
Is there the same sort of thing up here and what channel are they on on the VHF radio?
As always, any info is greatly appreciated.

Ive been out with lads who radio the harbourmasters office with basics and then call back when they get back in.

No they had a swing at it but it looks like it died a natural death the repeater still worked on the water tower last time I checked it channel 21 VHF there is a thread on it way back Edo "Offshore radio reception" I think..

We have a" sort of coast gaud " but they are only on station during the w/end.(maybe)

but I must say the careflight crew are the best if you have to trip the epirb

Hey mate dont know of any up here, we have the coastguard but think they only come when you use your epirb

You can call Coast Radio Darwin on ya VHF and log your trip if you really want to.

yes, i hate the law up here that if you are 2 miles from the coast or less you don't need an EPIRB. That is the only thing that is most likely to save your bacon no matter where you are!

Perhaps thats where AFANT could be lobbying the government for a few bucks to set it up?.
It cost me 70 bucks a year in QLD,money well spent to keep it afloat, all the radio operators were volunteers and they did a great job.
looks like i will be travelling in pairs when i decide to go wide,

Is there a problem with the way the VMR system and repeater network works in the southern states after all this time?

I have never had a problem with them and the yearly donation was a small price to pay for a rescue if needed when you are a long way from home........................there were more posts here?????????????

No problems with the way they work down south it has been of great convenience to me at times and many lives are saved I am sure. I am thinking its just a local issue here in the north but the realism is few tragedies occur ..... but a life is a life after all.
I didn't see any other posts Edo but sometimes when there is rubbish written on here Matt deletes it straight off. Unbelievable as it may seem it has even happened to me before I saw the light

nope! no problem with the equipment, more the unlicensed vhf users that have no clue!!
Theres no need for a log-in / record system up here in my opinion.
