Fisheries Budget Released for 2015-16

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Post by tristan.sloan »

Some good news for NT Recreational Fishers in the budget. Including $4.5M for stage 1 of the Dundee Boat ramp to be started on the 1st of July, $2m for a proposed upgrade of the Shady boat ramp with an engineering report to be undertaken and $750,000 towards fish stocking and artificial reef enhancement programs.

Lats you are a bit ambitious mate - probably win money if you were to bet on it not being started by then.

Is that being negative or a realist??? - love to be proved wrong though.

Track record suggests a realist!!

Time will tell.
Work is what i do to pay for fishing!!

This seems to be the second or third time that the NT Government has allocated money for Dundee and Shady ramps.

Definitely getting their moneys worth out of these promises :fubird: :fubird: :fubird: :fubird:

This. What happened to the downstream ramp? Couldn't do it with that amount of money.

I wont get my hopes up til i can back my boat down the new ramp.
Knowing the NT govt form, they will dump a load of gravel at the existing one and say 'that's your upgrade'
remember nothing happens in govt unless we the public demand it.

I think the government would be best served picking one or the other and doing a proper job of it in the first place. As it stands they are hedging the bets trying to target a wider voter percentage. All I can see coming from it will be two half arsed ramps.

And I thought that fishermen generally was a "happy lot", [ after all, you get to go fishing to relieve home and work tensions]. Seems like many of negative comments come from individuals who are dead set against only "proper voice" we have in the ears of Govt.

I was formerly [last job before here] part of horticultural industry, when all groups united and spoke with one voice, things improved.

By the way, despite as a business man I always were conservative, I voted labour last time.....now I'm stuf.ed.

Be happy...... you still get to go fishing, any improvement a step forward, AND we lobbied govt. with help of AFANT and others, to get Adelaide river carpark upgraded some years ago, so you "serious fishers" don't get swamped with more "weekend fishers" in other places.

AND... "the man with no name from me", has caught more than 100 barra up here in 4 trips last month. However, most "weekend casuals" still often go home with nothing. Kai.
