I recon your's is a flowery cod and your misses' is a gold spotted rock cod

I don't know lats..... My misses is gold but a spotted rock cod is a bit harsh hahahahaha

Next question can you eat the flowery cod.
The gold spot was delicious. Honestly one of the best eating fish I have had, flame thick white flesh

I'd imagine that you could but personally I'd be more inclined to release it. But that's just me

Yeah, the old rock cod are pretty good. Very similar flesh to coral trout

Yeah we released this one. Good to know you could if it's been a slow day. Nice looking fish and pull hard.

I would agree with you on the coral trout comment.

Big cod is definately an Estuary cod or if you are in QLD a Gold spot cod. The Smaller one is a flowery cod. Both Good to chew as are most cod species. they are cr.p to clean and smell bad but the flesh is good.

Congrats on your first Jewie , a very nice fish.

Diffenitely rate those rock cods for the table. Better chewing then jewies that's for sure.
