I dangled a small fly that I was using in front of him after a while ?....BOOF just like a Barra except then he ran straight in the Rock after a few second POP there goes half my 12 lb leader that hard to cast on such a small fly rod in the first ..oh well ,you win some you lose some also I have spotted a nice koi in the lake too .

Well been waiting for the Tilapia to start showing up here.......only a matter of time they are like cane toads.....The Oscar is a cichlid species I think same as the Tilapia

Yeah. Pretty much. Tilapia would survive well up here with the conditions If they appear we can certainly say goodbye to things like the toga ....

NT Fisheries would like to hear from anyone who has seen tilapia, oscar, koi or any other feral fish in NT waterways so they can remove them, if you can help identify waters that hold these fish, call Michelle on 0413 381 094 or email [email protected]
Fisheries are keen to get the above-mentioned oscar and koi and any other feral fish before they can breed, give them a call.

Re: Probably shouldn't be there
My Dad sent this to NT Fisheries
G Day
My son is a keen fisho and spends most of his day fishing in the Gunn lakes when he is not at school .He has recently spotted an oscar in Gunn lakes in the lowest lake .He is positive of the sighting as I have owned fish tanks for a long time ( no never have owned and no isnt my oscar in there ) and he knows his fish from the reading etc we do together.
Just wanted to let you know as we are aware of the potential damage an introduced species can do as we lived next to the Ross river in Townsville which is full of tilipia. Pls feel free to return contact email for any other info

Definitely call NT Fisheries. Oscars are extremely aggressive, invasive fish and have taken over waterways in the USA. We all know what carp are like too.

Good work notifying Fisheries. They are planning to do some electrofishing there shortly to see what type of pest species turn up and how healthy the Barra population is in there.
