I agree with Dicks comment of get in while you can, as there are already large tracts of the nt coastline that are off limits to most of us, so it's only a matter of time before the Kimberley follows suit. I'm sure the resort at the mouth isn't that keen on seeing people in small boats turning up in numbers so if there was any chance to do an exlcusive deal on access, that they'll persue it!
I did the exact same trip with some mates a couple of years back and it will remain in my memory forever. We camped on the beach at the mouth on the right bank as you head in and it was quite a good anchorage, although a bit shallow.
A word of warning though - that coastline becomes TREACHEROUS during a strong South easterly and we cut our trip short by a couple of days due to forecast high winds. If you don't have one, hire a sat phone as they are cheap when split between a few people and you'll be able to keep track of the weather.
