I have inherited a timber rod that was build about 1940 and would like to have it restored. Is there anyone
Around that can do the work properly?

Re: Restoring a timber rod
Is it a split cane fly rod ?
The past is history, the future is mystery, the moment is a gift and that's why it's called the present

Re: Restoring a timber rod
Only used split cane and rangoon cane rods, have never seen a timber one. I believe Alf Dean used timber rods on great white sharks back in the day.
Will be interesting to see how you go with restoration.

Re: Restoring a timber rod
It is a 3 piece rod and one section has broken at the brass joiner. Guides appear to be good. Needs stripping and refinishing.
Something else I found interesting is the rod has been stored since about 1945 in a leather container that is marked as a spare barrel for a 303 machine gun dated 1943.
I suspect that there are some pretty cool things still kicking around in farm sheds.

Hi Sheps. You could ring Steve Jones at Creative Timbers in Virginia or Larry at LJ Custom Rods out Palmerston way. Larry has contact details on his website and Creative Timbers are Local Search online.

My old man is a French Polisher. He does antique furniture and wooden instrument restorations. He might be able to help but you'd have to send it to Queensland. He will be in Darwin in June and July.
