Midweek lorna

Post by john d »

Went for a run out to lorna on Wed morning.
Launched just after sun up to beautiful glass conditions made for a quick run out.
Got as far as near fish reef where the water was alive with schools of macks and sharks smashing bait every where.
First cast and hooked up straight away and landed a good size school macky.
Tried to get a photo if it but it was jumping allover the place so went to grab it and it bit me.
Not deep but bled heaps, lucky it was not a big spanish.
Dispatched the bugger with a few well placed knocks to the head :bbad: and bandaged up my arm.
Next cast hooked up straight away again, there was so many macks you could not miss.
There were schools of macks and sharks just rolling on the surface smashing the bait, it was an incredible sight.
Decided to give the fly geer a go and proceeded to loose most of my flys as I had no wire with me.
manager to get 3 to the boat but just couldn't get them on board before the inevitable snip of occurs.
Still great fun on the 9 weight sight casting to macks and watching them smash the fly.
After an hour of madness continued on to lorna.
Fished several drops but only managed trickys, styipes and small red fish.
After a few hours ran out the teaser and a couple of skipping gar for a trawl back.
Didnt get anything up on the teases after an hour so opened up the throttle for a smooth run home.
Havent been able to do much fishing this year so it was good to get back out there.
The area around charles point has a few big logs and trees floating in the area some are hard to see so if you head out that way take care.
Sorry for the quality of the pics got to get a decent camera one day

Great read mate, Well done. Water does look very flat.

You might be right about the 25knotts but more likely from the East I would suggest.

great post john d

looks like you had a ball

can't wait to get out there myself :-)
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!
