Commonwealth Marine Reserves Review

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Commonwealth Marine Reserves Review

Post by tristan.sloan »

Hi Guys,

As some of you might be aware based on the last election commitment of the federal government to restore confidence in the consultation process surrounding the commonwealth marine reserves there is currently a review underway of the zones for the North Commonwealth Marine Reserve.

While the actual size and locations of these zones will not change what may change, depending on submissions received, is the actual zoning itself. In other words Multiple Use Zone's which currently allow recreational fishing may change into Marine National Park Zones (No Fishing).

While AFANT is preparing a submission around this. I encourage everyone with an interest in this to either complete the survey or submit a personal submission. The closing date is the 31st of March.

Information including the survey and application process can be found here. Click on "join the conversation" to have your say.

Hey Tristan,

Bit off topic but what the hell....
Have you/afant had any talks of late with the government regarding upgrading boat ramp security and the broken election promises with that issue..???

Just curious..
Cheers.

Hi Hemi, yes we have and I'm pleased to say that progress is being made towards that issue. The wheels move slowly unfortunately.

Doing a good job Tristan, communication is key and at the moment you're nailing it.

Well done.
