Re: Bali executions
The debate on the death penalty aside for a second, if you believe only one tenth of the media hype surrounding them it appears that the Indo President does have some clear constitutional guidelines that could stop the executions but has chosen not to.
That got me wondering about what’s under the surface of the indo psyche. Is knocking off foreigners and in particular Australians a favourite but unofficial sport of the country? The Bali bombings, the Balibo five plus Roger East, ethanol poisoning and the list goes on.
Maybe the President wants a couple of trophies for the wall of his office whilst his police chief just gets a couple of selfies.
PS I love this bit out of a report on the Bali bombings -
On 24 October 2008, Bali officials announced that three men convicted of carrying out the bombings would be executed by firing squad in November 2008. On 25 October 2008, Communications and Information Minister asked the Indonesian media to stop calling the three heroes.

Re: Bali executions
Wish our government would just shut the frig up!
Nothing but a last minute popularity vote grabbing exercise.
Anyone ever heard of 'Pham Trung Dung???'
Hes an australian citizen given the death penalty last year in Vietnam.
He was caught with $40,000 worth of herion compared to $4 million that the bali boys had.
While Abbott is bending over backwards, holding vigils and trying to conduct prisoner swaps... Heres what the Australian DFAT response to Mr Dung was....
"""We understand that he has the right of appeal. Whether he decides to do so is a matter for the man and his lawyers.""""
Not quite same love and support for this australian citizen as the others are getting.
This is one news extract on Mr Dung...
A court in southern Vietnam has sentenced an Australian citizen to death for possessing more than four kilograms of heroin.
Pham Trung Dung, an Australian of Vietnamese origin, was arrested in May last year when customs officials reportedly found the heroin in his luggage as he was boarding a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Australia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said confirmed that they had been informed of the sentence: “We understand that he has the right of appeal. Whether he decides to do so is a matter for the man and his lawyers."
The online newspaper VnExpress quoted Dung as telling the court in the one-day trial on Friday that he was hired by an unidentified man to transport the heroin for $40,000.
Court officials were not available for comment on Friday.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Possessing or trafficking 100 grams of heroin is punishable by death.

4kg of heroin worth $40,000... "What a load of cr.p.."
From what I understand he was carrying about almost half the amount of heroin that all of the Bali nine were carrying combined.
I'd be very surprised if he hasn't or isn't getting consular assistance and if his appeals are unsuccessful then I'm sure the government will get more involved as his execution date looms, as they have with Chan and Sukumaran.

Who gives a poop
The amount of drugs on both sides no doubt would have killed a few people at home here as well
Let one go to his neck tie party and hurry up and give the other two a lead pill
They all deserve it and so do the big dealers at home here as other peoples lives mean nothing to them so long as they profit
