Shady Camp

Post by Skippadman »

After much deliberation on at Friday lunch time, Bubba34 and I decided to join the crowds and hit Shady Camp on Sat. We left straight after work on Friday and were at the mouth of the Sampan by 2130h.

Thought we would have a quick troll and picked up a 98cm barra on the second pass. She was a bit skinny (probably been laying eggs) but should fatten up soon. Anchored up for the night with 10 other boats and waited for morn.

Started trolling at first light and watched the procession of spotlights coming down the river. Trolled all day until 1400 with 60 other boats and picked up two more barra (75 & 85cm) 6 threadies and a jewie aboard On Strike in between the madness.

Annoying part was people swamping my boat when hooked up, throwing plastics and trolling around us while trying to land a fish. Should have taken some rocks to throw.......

Great trip overall with a few interesting people out there.

Well done, looks like shady is producing well. It seems a lot of people out there aren't playing the game. Are there many guide boats out there yet?

There were two guides out there Darwin Barra Safaris and Reel Screaming charters. Spoke with Paul from Darwin Barra Safaris at Corroboree Tav on the way home and he got three barra to 70cm. It was good to see the small majority of boats landing fish on Sat had FFF stickers on the back and the rest didn't:) 10% of people catching 90% of fish.....

I'm all for helping others/newbies catch some fish (and I listen to the more experienced as well) but there is a line where people just become idiots.

Awesome trip with good mates and it beats looking at the boat in the drive way.

Great post mate
We saw your boat out there, very nice rig.

How crazy were people out there. As soon as someone hook up they were all over you.

Just keep a box of sinkers handy for when they get too close. They will learn.

Hi there,

Well done!
I went with Craig, and we did not too bad, will do a post about it soon.
But we got all our fish at Tommy Cut.
Basically we went there, because we found that the mouth of Sampan was too crowded.

Have a good day,

Good move.

I would have done the same thing if I headed out there.
