Big culvert bazzas

Post by swamp_donkey89 »

Went down the AH Sunday and fished nearly every culvet along the way up to Magela Creek for zilch. Until that is, Magela produced for us!
Pulled up, found a soft plastic with leader still attached and asked my mate to bite through the line and while he was doing that i said "give me your rod mate" first cast, BANG! She swam straight down with the current, had to pass my rod through a few trees to get to a suitable spot to land her and she went 78cm. Then 4 casts later in exactly the same spot the other one had just came from, I was on again!
This one looked a lot bigger and fought a hell of a lot harder, but with the same tactics as the first. It made a great account of itself. After a 10m back and forth battle she hit the deck going 83cm.

Both fish were really fat and heathy so hopefull East Alligator should go alright this year!

The Magela was flowing at 800 when we were there Sunday, cars were gettin through but not many wanted to try cause it was flowing pretty fast.
I think we racked up 680km for the Sunday drive and just those 2 fish made it all worth it!

Nice fish there, we went out for a drive last week and only got a couple of rats.

Good fun though with the kids :-)
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Those fish are really dark! Bet she had a blast reeling in those 2 though! I kept the 78cm barra and the fillets were great! I don't care what anyone says, swampies are not as bad tasting as people portray them to be, I'll keep eating them from now on that's for sure

Well Done,
Some nice fish coming from the culverts lately.
I did a run along coomalie creek around batchelor a few weeks ago with the quad and picked up a tonne of big sootys no barra though.
Cheers Grizz
