Well I bought the MotorGuide......only had it out the once but so far so good.......held position very well on anchor mode and did everything I asked of it.

Yes you can link it with Lowrance....not sure about Simrad I never asked.

I can't see why the MotorGuide would have anymore issues in rough transit than any of the others......it seem to deploy and stow with a similar mechanisim and yes it has quick release puck style very similar to the others.

I bought a 80lb MG bout 6 months ago and have recently linked it to my 12 touch. Have always had MK before and would have went that way again had it not been for the linking capability with Lowrance.

So far it has been awesome and given no issues, I rate the spot lock on the MG better than the MK.

I hope the MG goes the distance like the MK's do however I know IOM will back me up if there are any issues that pop up

Would definitely go MG again at this stage.

Was considering a MK, but now MG may be on the cards.

Sorry I can’t do a comparison because I’ve never had a MG.
But I love the spotlock.
I too had the 3 beeps and drop out. I put a new battery into the controller and fully charged the MK battery before I go out. And haven’t had a problem since.
I suppose I was just too lazy to charge the batt and relied on the engine to charge the MK battery on the trip out. Worked most of the time but not always.
I did have a remote controller poop itself but was swapped in store at IOM under warranty

IOM must have a heap of MG to get rid of

Yes and Yes.

I've just put a new HDS 9 Gen 2 Touch, Sonci Hub and Motorguide Xi5 in my boat.
Motor guide have quick release (puc) mount like MK's - I'd suggest putting a small RAM mount to secure the shaft in transit if leaving it on most of the time.
The HDS and MG connect over an NMEA 2000 Network via a GateWay Interface Cable (~$300) - once connected you can control the MG from the HSD with full Nav to routes and waypoints. The Anchor and Jog and Heading Lock features on the Xi5 are Gold!

Jog feature sounds very handy, keen to see how they hold up to a couple years worth of the the abuse I give my MK.

Still deciding my self whether to go MK or MG. MG seems to better bang for buck plus I have a Lowrance so the MG will link with that if I want to take it that far.

I Have a MK on my 4.55m Seajay and it holds spot lock in blue water on big tides at Dundee no problems
As for the big rivers if there flowing fast don't think anything will hold you
Would buy another MK no problems but MG sounds just as good or better
As for the three beeps sound, sounds like trying to spot lock when water is moving to fast as they will only push boat about 7km/h or it is under sized for the boat.

Update on the MotorGuide Xi5 with Pinpoint.......

bl..dy awesome........holds spot terrific.....well enough in running water to know I'm able to sit in position and it's not going to move any more than 1.5mtrs from where it's supposed to be.........

I have used it in some pretty tight spots so far and now have complete confidence that it will do as it is told...

Battery life running off of 1x120ah battery has been great......2 days using it and the battery was still at 70%+....or so my charger tells me anyway.

Another vote for the MG.

Had mine out for a few trips now. Glad I went with the 80lb one. Can cruise along at nearly 4 knots flat out.

Spot lock works well but haven't tried it yet on a fast flowing creek as been too busy hitting the blue water.

Makes for easy fishing and moving spots epically in 30m+ of water. No more dropping anchor for me!
