Where to go away/fish on big tides?
Hi all,
Got some family up from interstate and was planning to go away somewhere for the weekend and take the boat, problem being massive tides and at crappy times.... Was thinking somewhere like CCI but I know it has been busy and you need a 3.5m tide to launch, any suggestions appreciated!
Cheers.

Crab claw island? Bynoe fishes well on big tide.

sounds like one of the better options on those tides. Or shady fresh. Darwin harbour on the flats.

Corroborre is good options if you don't care about catching fish.
It's pretty though.

Re: Where to go away/fish on big tides?
I have my old man turning up tonight and Monday looks to be a suitable day. The tides are big, 6-7 metres of movement, how will this fish at Dundee? Is it OK to fish in close, say Point Jenny or Blaze, or better to go out wide?
Or is Bynoe really OK with this much movement? I'd have thought it'd be similar to trying to fish in the harbour.
If I was going all the way to Dundee I'd like to be able to fish thru the tide, not just at the turn...

Dundee will be fine tide wise, winds may be more of an issue.
Another speckie option is the blue holes. Bit of I info on here now if you have a search.

Thanks Mickkk, the wind is due to die down on sunday, so hopefully that stays true.
So anywhere at dundee? In close or out wide, it shouldn't matter? I'm a dundee virgin on these big tides.

I'm planing on going out to sail city this weekend, also a bit concerned about the wind with the bigger tides.
I hear the bigger the tides better the fishing out that way though!

Jenny and blaze should be good and easier to hide a little is storms roll in. I find the tuna school up a bit better on big tides and are less flighty. I pick an area and spend 30 mins trowling around for macs and mark any interesting grounds you see. Make sure you are on pretty fishy grounds for the change of tide and it should go off. I haven't come home from Dundee fish less. Always plenty of good size trickys around and cod as a minnium. Hopefully the tuna turn on for you. I don't know why some times they are going off and other times you get nothing.
Keep an eye out for birds if you see a few follow them.
If the tuna are busting up and you get board of them or they ain't playing the game try dropping jigs or even bait around them as there's some times some nice bottom feeders around eating the left overs.
Take a few small chromies for the tuna and wind as fast as you can.

Mate the Daly can fish well on big tides for Barra and for reefies Dundee as mentioned is your best bet if the wind stays away.
