Shoal Bay - Tree Point Beach Area

Post by Once Bitten »

Just putting it out there. Has anyone had any adverse experiences in and around the beach / sand dune area opposite "The Rock" area of Shoal Bay. I believe the area forms part of a location commonly known as Tree Point. I was recently asked (I use the term loosely as other colourful language was used) to get back on my boat and leave the area by "a local" who claimed to be the Traditional Owner of the area and that I was not welcome on his land. I have been fishing the area for over 10 years without any issues in the past and I have been of the belief that the area is a Conservation Area managed by Parks and Wildlife. Anyone know of any other such experiences? Interested to see where we stand legally as fishos. I see that there has been other historic mentions on the Forum. Anyone willing to update on events?

My missus wants to buy me a GoPro...she said I need it... It's like a black box recorder for fishos...

There are signs on gun pint beach and there use to be a sign on the end of tree point as well. It is aboriginal land and people live there all the time. Best off respecting their place and fishing somewhere else.

Sorry boys Mickkk and Jonr are correct. true there is the conservation area yes but there is a seperate section below the conservation area which is Indigenous Land, there are signs as Mickkk points out.

Here is a link to a map of the area and you can clearly see the boundry marked in yellow. As i said there is an area below the conservation area which id Indigenous Land Keep off...

 Welcome to the club mate. Been fishing over there for ever - had maybe 1/2 doz 'encounters' over the years.

Other than the first one 30+ years ago when I just a kid ( and there was a shotgun produced  ) in every other instance I've given back as much as I've got.

Back in the 12ft tinny days when we did overnighters over there, we'd camp up on the beach with raging bonfire going and never had an issue. These days I'm on the
sand spit for 10 minutes at high tide to chuck the net, and then out of there.

Fukc em I say
