Second hand boats under finance
How do you check if a second hand boat is under finance.
I have a work mate just new to the territory and he is looking to buy a second hand boat.
He,s looked at a few bar crushers for K50+.
A fair output if it is still under finance and finds out to late.
Any advice

Re: Second hand boats under finance
As far as i know there is no way of checking, which it think is ridiculous. I almost got stung by a boat under finance. I would be asking to see previous owners proof of purchas. If they bought it new I would be checking with dealer to find out how it was purchased it.
The problem is when there has been a few owners along he way, or when there is no paper trail of the ownership of the boat. Although most finance companies won't touch people purchasing a 2nd hand boat (for this exact reason) there are a few who will from what I'm told.

Cheers Mickkk
Leaves a bit of doubt when buying 2nd hand.
Some of the boats looked at are only a few years old and asking a fair price.
Would have cost a considerable amount when new.
Especially bar crushers.

Same as revs check used to be now you do a check on the same data base as whatever they call the rev thing now. You need the hin number which crusher[s would have Home made ones may not have a Hin number plus the motors go with their serial numbers and trailer vin. If you cant find it let me know I have the paperwork somewhere at home.

Costs a few dollars but might be worth it in the long run.

Re: Second hand boats under finance
I always commit the owner to provide the dealership details from where he bought the boat from and ask the dealer if there is money owing on the boat (most loans are taken out through the dealers). Also commit to paper and have the owner write on his receipt that the boat is unencumbered - no receipt, start walking...

If you can get me the Hull Number and engine serial number I'll do the PPSR searches for you through work.
