Stickbait action

Post by Wuhc »

Hey all,

been roaming around here for a few months now thought it'd be about time I contribute something. East point rocks last week on the morning springs, landed this brassy trev. Hard crank, skipping the stick bait across the water, smashed right at my feet. Releases to fight another day

Arrabmundi,

I got this one on a Maria loaded 140mm 43g in a green mackerel colour. Dropped a queenie that morning as well on one of the sub surface orcas.

Good job, Wuhc. It is refreshing to see someone use big stickbait for landbased fishing in Darwin. Do you do this sort of style fishing often?

Cheers Doc,

I've heard this mentioned before with some of the locals that frequent East Point, Lee point land based spots. They usually recommend smaller sized poppers or metal slices. I generally try to match the hatch on most occasions, but on that particular day I couldn't see any bait, so I thought I'd try something different.

I believe there may be 'something' there to using bigger lures as I ended up landing another two brassy trevs on this weeks morning springs. Will definitely be changing my trebles to singles and de-barbing the hooks on my next land based session though, its just too rough on the fish and lowers any chance of a healthy release.
