Which sounder to buy

Post by COOPS »

I'm in the market for a new sounder. What do people recommend ?

Is the hds7 a good thing? It's for a 4.6 m boat. Mainly barra fish but want something better for when I go out chasing reefies.

Simrad NSS7 or bigger mate. Excellent units.

I have a HSD7 with side scan and can't fault it :applause: matched with an 80lb Minn Kota on a 4.8 Topender and it will do everything you need 8)

Thanks for the feedback, a few people have recommended the HDS7 so far.

I had a look at the Simrad ad on youtube. Looks like a good unit as well at a fairly similar price to the HDS7

I've also got the HDS7 Touch Screen with sidescan and downscan. Magic unit. Splits pages to fit GPS, ss and sounder. I also have the HDS 5 as a backup in-dash. Can't beat the Lowrances IMHO. Utube will sell it to you. All the best with your choice.

Another vote for Simrad here Coops. Ive had two Lowrances not bad, but I prefer the Simrad. Only downside to the Simrad is you need to also spend $400 or so on the blackbox for the structure.

The new Lowrances have got the sidescan box inbuilt to the head unit. Means less drilling and more space than the old units and other brands.

simrad nss8, from what i hear the new model is set to be released in a month or two and the structure scan is built in as well
also according to a mate lowrance and simrad are both made by the same company, not sure how true this is? anyone know more?

Lowrance/simrad can't go wrong cooper. The service/warranty is good if you ever have any issues too.

Lowrance and simrad both come from navico I have a nss 12 great off shore but for a smaller boat I would go the lowrance because side scan is built in the new simrad evo 2 has it built in also but big money
