I was lucky enough to get an invite the 2011 Makeral Island Fishing Comp recently. The comp is run at the Makeral Islands Resort (Thevenard Island) by the Port Headland gamefish club each year, its an awesome location and the comp is great fun. The comp is run on a maximum of 8kg line class and this makes for some interesting battles when big mackeral, tuna or Billies come to play.
It was a first for me on two fronts as I managed to land my first Black marlin and my first dolly. The Black was estimated at around 30 kg and the Dolly went 5.6 kg. I do not have the pics of the billy yet but have a couple that I took during the comp.

The billies proved hard to find and we only ended up landing the one Black. We did hook a sail breifly and kept ouselves busy with tuna and dollies on light line.
The highlight or maybe the lowlight was a big black that we hooked on 8kg on the last day. The fish led us on a merry chase for 2.5hrs, during this time we followed it for around 8 miles. The dodgy man battled it with all he had, but on the light string he was unable to tire the fish out. With a final days weigh in to get to, he had to make the call to push the drag up to sunset. This made no differance and the big girl just kept powering on down below us. The heavy drag and thumb pressure eventually popped the line and we returned to camp in silence.

What a great place to fish. It looked to me like you were having fun with that beautiful green fish. I can only imagine how good it would be to have a sail or marlin on. Lucky man.
