Finally got my first taste of Pilbara fishing with a quick trip out before work this week.
We hit the water around seven and headed out to the Islands at the end of the Dampier Archipelago. The weather was good and the wind had dropped off for a plesant change so we drifted over some good looking ground casting lures. After several follow ups my laser pro was hammered by a nice coral trout.
Another small coral trout followed soon after and then we found a patch of Queenies. They seemed hard to convince with heaps of follow ups but not many hook ups.
Final tally was 5 hooked and 3 landed, great fun on poppers.
We then went out to some wider reef for a bottom bash, catching another nice trout and a buch of small reefies including a blue bone.

Cheers Guys.
Pech. We ate the trout and it was all very nice until I got a stomach bug that night and was able to taste it again. Not so good the second time around.
The temp is much the same as Darwin just less humid. I had 2 layers on to combat the morning chill (15C) on the way out. So soft about the cold after a long stint up North.

You aint kidding it feels like Timor revisited.
Brett I am trying to suss out the Billy scene but its all a bit down this way, and as i have not done the reams of paperwork required to get my boat registered I have not had it in the water yet.
This is a very regulated state. First I had to get a rec skippers ticket.
No a coxswains qual is not good enough for pleasure crusing in a 5mtr boat. Then I have to get my boat rego'd but you cant just go to the department and do that first you have to track down the obscure/Elusive HIN number provider who lives somewhere in this big state. Give him some $$ for a pink bit of paper etc etc.
Thats not even mentioning the fishing licence that you need to fish from a boat. This licence does not cover throw nets need a seperate one if you are going to collect bait and another one again if you are going to jump in and grap a cray........
Just a small rant but a heads up for NT fisho's if they head this way as you need a rec skippers ticket to take your boat out.
