planning a trip to barnhill for a couple of weeks and an wondering what sort of fish I can expect to catch there. Any ideas on the type of equipment needed eg line type, mono leaders or wire. I am also thinking about taking my boat a 4.5m quintrex hornet trophy with a 50 on the back, is the beach alright for launching off and is there any spots out there worth trying. thanks for any help

HI
Have fished from Barnhill a few times, good for blue bone, mackerel, Spanish flag and further off shore all the normal reef fish. Blue bone can be caught very close to shore.Catch some crabs of the beach of a night for the blue bone
One word of warning should there be some swell about it can be dangerous to launch and retrieve. I've been there when we had to ride the swell up the beach then drag the boat out with a strap then try to winch it on the trailer high and dry. While waiting for the car we take waves over the stern. We have never come to grief but have seen other people(grey nomads) get into some real trouble.
I've also been there when launching is easy. I have a spare wheel that can drop down for rolling the trailer into the water. This is a God sent as we can keep the car on hard ground and never have to worry about getting bogged.
I love the camping ground but it is very basic. They use to do a roast on Sunday and pizzas on Wednesdays and also have a small green for lawn bowls(good laugh when you get your ass whipped by someone twice your age) Everyone gets together for a BBQ most nights.

Go a little further down the track mate. Port smith is a better option, if the swells running you can stay in the system. If its calm out front time your exit n entry right n you can catch anything from trout n green meanies to billies. But the best session ive had was sight casting to jacks from 30cm to 60cm im the main channel on fly.
How much further down the highway is port smith, coming over from kununurra for a two week stay, haven't done any blue water fishing in a very long time, can you get much bait there with a throw net or do you just use strip bait from fish you catch
was at port smith in january ,no sand flies at all totaly awesome spot
heaps of fish in the channels dont even have to use a boat if you dont want too ,head down the fence line to the cliffs and spin for macks ,tina and lots of bottom dwelling creatures as well
160k south of broome , accomodation is great , fuel ,bait ,ice and basic food stuff is also avalable
plenty of mullet on the sand flats for bait also heaps of big whitting on the incoming tide
i only used my quad bike to get around while there didnt even put the boat in the water ,had a ball
