NTMAG Friday fishing report & tips for April 19

Post by Matt Flynn »

An update on roads ...

Gunn Point Road has reopened between 8km past Koolpinyah Station turn-off and Gunn Point. A weight restriction of Max 4.5 Tonne, light vehicles only is in place.
(People were still going in last week according to Leaders Creek Fishing Base, must have been ignoring the sign.)
Oenpelli Road at Magela Creek open with high clearance 4WD only.
Check Territory road conditions at http://www.roadreport.nt.gov.au or Freecall 1800 246 199.

****

Darwin tides from Sunday coming off neaps, with building tides through the week - fantazmo!
Fishing weather - variable to 10 knots for Sunday forecast - perfecto!

Reports from the tackle shops and elsewhere ...

Macks, tuna and sailfish in Dundee bluewater
Macks off Lee Point and East Point - should be really good this week!
Snapper in close off Charles Point, jewies a little wider - best at night early in week, daytime late in week
Good trout showing up off Dundee
Mud crabs are starting early, probably better in the creeks later in the week with a bit of tidal movement

Daly River muddy but starting to settle
Roper River producing run-off barra but heaps of boats down there
Adelaide River a few for the smart fellas, including one horse from the mouth
Shady Camp - a few big fish including salmon but lots of boats catching zip
South Alligator poor
East Alligator poor

Today's tip - just go!

Insurance tip - Keep receipts for your fishing tackle so you can claim your insurance when it is stolen

Re the South Alligator - there is still quite a bit of water up there, but not much bait. Might improve.

East Alligator billabongs had a lot of fish kills thanks to the poor Wet.
