Ok so I'm off to Corroboree on a houseboat on Friday. I'm not a troller but I have some interstate guys on board who don't have a clue, so it looks like we will be trolling. Any tips on where we should troll (where have they been biting) would be appreciated. Please bare in mind that the house boat makes accessibility a problem.
I don't really expect to catch anything but it would be surprise to hook something while kicking back sinking some bundy's

Hi Norrs,
We once done the same thing with relos from down south. Basically you cant get to close to the bank so your best option is trolling along lilly lines. We picked up fish doing this around the s bends. Only 3 by memory but it was good fun.

There is a lot of ribbon weed out from the banks now, so trolling along the edge of this should be no trouble for the house boat. A lot of people casting soft plastics into the lillies on the weekend. Heard of a 85cm caught in the main billabong up sat the S bends. The water temp in the morning was 23-24 degrees in the Rock Hole but towards the middle of the day it was increasing.

Hi Norrs....for some fun park up near a big expanse of lillies.....throw scum frogs way over the back of the lillies and slowly reel them back over the top for saratoga. Barra will hit them too. There are stretches on the main billabong that allow houseboats fairly close the edge.....shouldnt have too much trouble. Thinking of a look out there on Sunday myself

take some small softies. 3 " reidys will do. at worst the tarpon love these. should be able to get plenty of tarpon action just by hoicking them out to the middle and working them back. yes they not barra. but alot more fun catching heaps of tarpon then getting nothing all day.

I'd take some surface lures too, poppers or fizzers if it's a full moon. Not sure how bad the mozzies are at night down there, but you should get some action at night or early morning (if you feel like getting up that early after a night on the rum cans, that is)

Take a couple of thermacells and set them up before ya have a fish at night and the mozzies won't bother you if it's freezing cold shouldn't be to many mozzies and a bit of a breeze

Another night time tip is........hang a torch near the water line within casting distance of the boat. The bugs swarm around it often landing in the water getting squaffed by bait fish. Throw lures around it periodically.
Some friends of mine would sometimes hang a carcass in a tree and return several days later to fish under it as the maggots dropped in the water....same principle...

Night fishing on a full moon is fun out there. Small lures and or soft plastics are the go. As the sun goes down, is a good time to catch the fish, casting is ok if your not trawling. You'll find the moon has just risen. I find it doesn't matter if you cast towards weeds or the centre of the billabong. They usually go quiet for a while after this, but will come back on around 9 to 9:30 for upto an hour.
After this, sit back, grab a beer/wine and let your mates flog there guts out casting , because generally thats it for the next few hours.

Well we had an amazing trip. I only got two barra up to 60cm. One on a reidys brown rubber and the other on a popper. Worked hard for them. Got loads of Tarpon after the moon rose. Show heaps of guides and didn't see any other fish being caught. Got some amazing photos of the sunset over a big fire and the sunrise through the fog. Might upload some when I sort through them.
