Well it sounds like everybody got fish this weekend which is really good to hear.

I had high hopes of going to Dundee this weekend however, I've been doing a fair bit of fishing lately and spending pretty much every weekend away. So as you can see the other half wasn't too happy with that idea.

So I made the call and Sunday was my day, after hearing good reports about the blue water around Lee point I thought screw dundee I'll save that trip for a another weekend when I have more time.

I was at nightcliff boat ramp at about 6:00am, there wasn't too many people at the ramp which was a bit of a relief as I had to boat my boat in myself (it can be a pain sometime doing it on your own at nightcliff).

First, I headed off to angler reef and there wasn't any surface action and nothing on the sounder, so I moved onto bottlewasher not much happening around there either. I was thinking "sh*t I should have gone to dundee" "Surely mackattack has to have something" and finally I could see the birds working in the distance, what a relief.

However, they didn't want a bar of me, I trolled through them using lures at different depths, I went fast and I tried slow, I put slices right in front of there nose and still zip. It was now almost 9:00 and I had almost given up then "wack", finally I was on after a few good runs I started to get some of my line back, it was a good size mack and it was now circling around the side of the boat. With one hand on the rod and the other holding the gaff, the leader busted right before I could drive the gaff into macks soft flesh, the fu*ker bit straight though my leader and swam off with my 16 dollar lure in its mouth.

Well, I was at the point were I was going to slowly make my way back to the ramp via the reefs again. I was trolling two line out the back of the boat when a school of macks surfaced right behind the prop wash of my boat and my lures were about to cut straight though the guts and then "bang", I was given another shot, it was giving me a fair amount of curry and I was thinking to myself this one was alot bigger, when I finally got to see it I reliesed that I had hooked it by the tail. Thats right the only way I could get a fish was to jag it.

The day did get better though, I trolled around angler reef and got another one which went straight into esky followed by another and another which I released. My luck had turned and by this stage it was 14:00pm and most the boats had already gone as the wind was starting to pick up.

With two fish in the esky it was time to cracked a "Gold" and go home. On my way home I was trying to think whether it was a successful trip or not, thats when I looked around and I was the only boat that I could see, I had a beer in my hand, it was Sunday afternoon, and I had fish in the esky. What was I thinking everyday on the water is a good day.

Well I've had a few beers now and just reliesed I'm carrying on a bit so I'll leave it here.

Nice broadbar there Ben. And your right about being on the water. Some times I ask myself "should I make the effort" and when I start to pull away from the ramp its like "OH YEAH"

I saw you at the boat ramp mate, good macks, we had fish busting up all around us at east point but would not take lures, so we came in early too as the wind was being quite the bitch

Top macks Ben. Yoiu did well to stick at it after the first one bit you you off. Lee point produces the macks again hey...good work.

Nice fish Ben. And appreciating the time on the water is the way to do it - fish are a bonus!!

Nice work Ben. My father-in-law used to tell me about a couple he used to know, that consistently got maks out there. Good to see that the extras are going back & that they're still there. Well done.
