Harbour Trout : NT Bluewater

Took the kids out last Sunday in the Harbour. Not expecting to get hold of this little coral trout.

I was trolling along in 3 m of water, when I felt a nice little tap but no weight. So I free spooled the line instantaneously then put it back in gear after the boat moved another 3 or 5 m along. Straight away the little guy jumped back on and went straight for the bottom. A quick tussle and he’s in the boat.

The brother in law has some interesting stories of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and seeing these critters grow to an impressive size. This little fellow lived to see another day and went back in the water.

Nice one mate..........Believe it or not i caught one in the cast net at Buffalo creek around 15 years ago that size........low tide at the mouth could not believe my eyes.......dragged one from the mud water

Yahoo Dex,,,I caugth one about the same size a few mounths ago near channel rock and didnt have a cammera with me,no one believed me they all said you dont get them in the harbour,,,,well heres the proof good post mate thanks :clap:

Years ago went out in the harbour in a 7 mtr boat in 2 mtr cyclone swell and we got about 7 for the day in 2 different spots- smith reef and town hall and they were a good size too!

I have caught 2 up to 45cm in the Larrakeyah basin years ago. Pilchard half with no weight

Caught this little fella on a live mullet dropped to the bottom at that patch of rubble off the larakeah rock wall, on my bazza setup I dropped the bait to the bottom, put the rod in the holder, turned around to grab a beer and the next thing my kiwi mate starts screamin "luk it yur rud bro yuve gut a fush" and there is the tip of my loomis touching the water, little tusle and up comes a trout,,

no idea why people think this, harbour is loaded with them.
in 2010 in caught a trout every month from the harbour for 7months. I think I posted them all on here too.

good on ya dex38 for letting him go to live another day. :mrgreen:

Yep, Nathan, good point. We catch trout alot in the harbour. Especially around Larrakeyah, 6 mile Bouy and other ledges around that general area. The boy's from Fish Darwin report alot of trout on wrecks in the harbour.

Good on you Dex38, alot of people would keep one that small

instead of leting it grow to a bigger size.
