We were a bit crrok on Thursday so canned Tiwi trip. It was windy as well I'm told. Friday we headed to Dundee for the first time in the big boat. A bit hesitant about the launch and retrieve but all went well.
Headed straight out to Long Lost and found heaps of bait around and spotties and mack tuna hitting it. Too small and focused on the bait. After a while we worked out to troll the patches between the bait schools and we had a great session on the Macks.
We had a Halco laser pro in yellowfin pattern slammed and snapped off at the rod. Probably a sail. We miraculously trolled it up 10 minutes later! After 2 macks each it was time to look elsewhere. We picked up a couple of big tricky's at Bowra and called it a day offshore. We headed for the Little Finnis. A bit of trolling produced a rat or two. The wind came up and the tide came down and we started out the channel. There we encountered barra free jumping out of our way!
We trolled a bit in 1.5m of water fro some hits but no hookups.
Saturday we headed for the Finnis. After some heavy duty prop polishing and a brave push off the sand by the deckie we followed another boat up the correct channel.....
We hung around the bottom rock bar - essentially to ourselves. One 84cm and one 81cm were the spoils. Some rats and a huge bust-off. The fish seemed lethargic - there were mountains of arches on the sounder - Powertail as it turned out.
We tried the top rockbar along with everyone else for nought. So we bolted for the Little Finnis again. Magic session! Silver fish - 70cm range - biting hard - every troll! Ran out of room in the small esky (the big one was full of Macks!) Left them biting to get the retrieve...
Sunday - blown out. Tried but all we got was a wet arse. What a trip!

You should have yelled out that the venue change was down to there we could have caught up somwhere. We had three nights four days down as far as Ford but around Peron and Channel point. How did the storms treat you. We got a good lot of fish mainly big sweeties but no bag out. Big problem was Snapper abnd trout secret spots were overun litterally with shiny brown metalic Powertail by the million. Had a great time anyway, one of the others might do a bigger write up. Let me know next time your going we can have a look around a bit. Good write up anyway.
