Finished work 9am thursday got home and thought its a bl..dy good day to wet a line, so I called up me mate and he was keen as mustard Got there gear ready and launched at nightcliff round 1130. I decide to head to rick mills to do some soft plastic drifting, after 40min and only 1 hookup 0 landed we headed for the bottlewasher. On arrival there were 2 boats anchored and 1 trawling, we tried the softy's again for zip... We decide to anchor in front of the washer and drop some baits down and float a pilly out the back.. after 30 min the floater got hit after a quick fight we landed a 40cm grey mack which was thrown on the shark road and floated out the back. Not much was happening on the bottom just the little pickers, I did hook something that was slowing taking line but I couldnt turn and ended up busting me of on the washer. Meanwhile something took the grey mack but evaded the hook Then the floating pilly went again when it got in sight my mate goes "it's a bl..dy shark" Bull it is its a cobia mate haha ended up being 4kg so I filleted it and put the frame on the shark rod and floated it out. After 10min zzzzzzzzzz of it goes got the gimbal and harness rigged up and set the hook game on! After 8 min the floating pilly went again so we had a double hookup Not long later the monster appeared here I was thinking I had a shark wasn't I wrong try a QLD Groper, couldn't believe the size of it.. mean while my mate pulled in a decent spaniard which would of fit in the Groper I grabbed his gob and started pulling single hooks, ganghooks some feathered looking jig and heaps of line out of its mouth and gills and also my hook and sinker from my other rod when I got snapped off "GUTS". After we got some pics and film I swam it for 15 min before it bit down and swam away such a awesome creature thats probably lived there for years claiming many fisho's gear haha. It measured 190cm no idea of the weight, had to of been 80 plus. Biggest fish I think I'l ever catch
