I am in the process of buying my first boat (see pics) 4.5m mustang 1500 (not sure of the year but im guessing mid eighties) with a 2009 60hp yamaha 4 stroke. I have not seen the boat in person as it is in Brisbane and i live in Cairns, but i am flying down next week to tow it home with the missus's Toyota Coaster Camper she just bought from brizzy also... Was hoping that i could get some info on geting the boat home in one piece without stone chips or motor damage, etc and maybe just some general info or comments on the boat and motor themselves... Also how will it handle and what kind of sea's is advisable, can i go out to the reef or stay close to shore... Cheers

Agree with Ajay. Yamaha make a rubber one you should get. I would also tie down both the nose and the back end to the trailer (take a spare ratchet strap also). Check everything on the trailer before you leave (springs, bearings etc)... plenty of grease in those bearings.
If its your first boat then I would just take it up the river for a while until you get used to it and get confident with its capabilities. A boat of that size I wouldnt be taking it out in any kind of sea over a small wind chop. You should be find to get out to reefs on flat days and fish but be aware the sea around that area comes up quick and it is a long way back to the shelter of the harbour.

Hey pegleg, if you launch from the pigpen ramp and head out past the Marina for Green, turn right between the second and third lead, keeping Yarrabah to s/board, aim for the mid point between south end of Green and Fitzroy Is. Chuck the troll line out with a mack magnet or reidy's judge in pillie colour, you should have a couple of mackkie's and a mac tuna in the box before you get to Arlington. Enjoy.. Pig pen is the ramp at the sugar silo's.

Right back at ya mate..Loved livin in Cairns, and would probably still be there if the floods 08/9 up north hadn't shut down me work..There's some real good fishinn to be had right there in the Inlet when its no good outside. Most of the possies have good depth and won't pose any problems for your boat. pays to have a second anchor tho, as you'll have to park crossways to the current to get the best result. Take too long to post so give me a call 0439078594 will give you the oil. Graham.
