Sick of getting the number plate smashed and lost is it legal to put it on the mudguard i seen other guys have it there ? or has any one got any other suggestions.

had mine on mudgaurd for 8 years with no problems, however last rego inspection was told to mount it on rear of trailer. till passed the inspection but said he would note it on the paperwork for next inspection.

Now have mine attached with cable ties so it flipps up when it hits anything, will post foto tomorrow. Also needed to fit light for plate. silasticed a small led light above, still there after 1/2 dozen trips out and about,

Mine is the same as Smed. Some checker plate and the number plate is riveted to the checker plate, there is a hinge attached to the trailer and checker plate. Stops it being smashed by stones and lets it flip up. Lost too many numberplates on the old trailer. George at NT Unique did mine.

Cut a section outa a old mudflap,attach the number plate to that and then attach the mudflap holding tha number plate to your trailor works a treat had mine like this for a long time,hope this idea may help you! Cheers.

Mine is hinged as well, on cable ties.
Fencing wire and hay band doesn't near the use it did before cable ties were invented!

Mines on the mud guard, stuck down with liquid nails and been there for about 4 years now hasn't looked like moving. Just don't use tech screws or rivets because remember your tyre is on the other side, have seen it done with tech screws before and tyre had 4 deep grooves matching them
As far as legal goes, the way I see it your better off having the plate than not at all.

Mine fell off the first year i was up there,never got it replaced in the next 3 years....never got pulled over...too much paper work for the NT boys in Khaki
