I have been using this site since about 2004 so we could map out future dates for the Nats. It has been very helpful. It is a world tide predicter so if your preparing for that once in a lifetime overseas fishing trip it is a great resource to get your timing right with the tides.
The above link puts u onto the world map on which the places for which predictions exist show as red dots. It includes Australia.
You can drill down into the map by clicking onto states then onto individual places.
The predictions for the mouth of the Daly can be easily found. Simarly for Rose Rive close to Roper. Nowhere else have I found any type of prediction for the Roper and there are some crazy tides there.
U can tailor make the type of display either by a list of hi-tide/lo-tide predictions in whatever hour format u eant. U can also do pretty graphs to show charts of the tides.
The predictions also give moonrise and moon set times. Sunrise and sunset.
The graphic format shows exactly the effect of what we've observed on the Roper. Tide rising, stopping and then rising again. Also rising, stopping, dropping and rising yet again without the tidal run changing direction!!.
You don't know if u're dealing with some sort ot of abnormal effect but it looks like its common to both the Rose and Roper. Bet there are others in the Gulf area affected the same way.
One of the fellows who came with us this year is a marine engineer for the US firm Bechtel who do major construction work like wharves, bridges, LNG plants, mines etc. He's in charge of the Bechtel's maritime construction works and is currently building the maritime parts of the LNG project at Curtis Island ( Gladstone).
Apparently he uses this predictor for different parts of the world where the country he's doing work in doesn't have any tidal prediction service.
Once you make up a graphical repreentation (and u can do that by ticking boxes) u can see immediately what to expect on the river that day. It's for the mouth so u'd have to take into account lag times as you go up the river.
But at least u know what to expect even if u don't know what causes the effect!
Look at the attached graph for the Rose/Roper rivers. For the next week's tides.
Note the significantly different successive high tide marks. How do u predict this stuff? But that's what actually happens on the river. Had us completely stumped ('til now).

Hi Ronje, not sure about how well known the website is. I started using the site back in 2004 for the Daly predictions for coming years so I could plan the dates for the Nats for 5 years in advance. I actually have printouts somewhere for the Daly to 2020. I found it one day when dredging the net looking for sites that would predict tides for the Daly. I found at the time there were planty for overseas including the US etc but this was the only one i could find that would do the Daly for 5 years in advace and FREE !
