With the Daly dropping fast Dean (Door's Off) and I decided to do an overnighter. Expectations were raised when the bloke at Adelaide river servo said it was going off with 30 fish in a session. We were hoping it wasn't a cse of shoulda been here yesterday. Hit the water at 8 am and headed down to around Elizabeth. There were about a dozen other boats working the river. We had a flick for a while at little Elizabeth. Dean saw a swirl and had a cast at it and hooked up into a solid... shark. Bugger swam away with his lure. But that is where the luck changed. I did a cast with the soft plastic and and it failed to land. Looked up and saw the offending overhead branch and a 10+ classic snagged right next to it. Bonus lure . Fish were boofing hard up against the reeds on tiny rainbows and were really hard to tempt out. Dean spent about half an hour with one giving him curry only a boat length away but fish won out.
Headed across to the waterfalls where most other boats were working and flicked a runoff with a hollow belly. Was getting regular bumps and hooked up twice to good fish but dropped them. In frustration went back to the trebles and the classic found earlier. A few casts later and landed first then second fish.

We moved up to the reed beds for dinner and tried to tempt the boofing reed fish. Dean cooked up a veritable feast which I sat back to enjoy and threw out the classic to sit in the current behind the boat telling Dean i'd laugh if it goes off. Had about two mouthfuls of my steak and the rod buckles up and a big fish hits the surface. Grab the rod but drop the fish. Cast out again saying - first time a fluke - happens again it a technique. 5 mins later - BOOF. Big fish hits the surface and I drop the bugger again.
At this point Dean's convinced and ties on a classic as well and we both start static trolling AKA "strolling" determined to land a fish. Dean gets a hit and hooks up then drops in and finally success. The first victim to strolling is successfully landed.

Dean continued to refine the technique with a second fish. All up seven hits for 2 landed. While discussing the merits of this technique Dean had a leader of line out and we were letting the lure swim in the current. We were crapping on about how it looks like a mullet when right under our noses a fish comes up from under the boat and BOOF. We were pissing ourselves.
We caught 6 fish for the weekend to 78 cm. Most were on classics. We were getting hits on the plastics but finding it hard to stay connected. Said g'day to Bandit who was getting a few in the creek mouths and Moonman. There was a lot less water coming off the waterfalls on Sunday so don't know how long the current conditions will last.

Good stuff Moz and it was good to meet you and Dean. We had similar results but most of our fish came from fizzers at night worked with lots of pauses and flicking softies around elliot but not letting them sink too far down. Bring on more rain. cheers shayne

Was a great weekend. Moz has me hooked on the "Strolling" now. I figure I will give it a crack all the time when I am anchored up and casting. He is the "Fusion" fishing master.
Great to see a few people down the river and meet Shaynes-God and a few other fellas. One young fella ended up with a lure in his hand, thankfully they got it out okay and saw them out fishing again on the Sunday.
The fish were very tasty as well, had some tonight for dinner - I am very fussy when it comes to Barra and don't anything from the Mary system due to obvious fresh/muddy taste - even from the ones out the front. These Daly ones had no sign of that at all - yummo!
With Moz doing so well on the classic, I seriously considered soaking my Classic in some Rum to gain an edge, unfortunately we had drank the litre bottle.

We've have success doing the same thing fellas. We were camped up at elizabeth creek overnight, it was early morning my uncle had my lure bout 10 meters behind the boat drifting in the run out tide, BOOF. 60 something barra landed. We caught 5 fishing in around 45 minutes doing that.

Moz and Doors off, Nice to meet you on the river, Shayne and I were in awe of the tenacity you displayed while perfecting your "Strolling". We wont say anything about the 1m 80 snagged while we were chatting, pretty rugged looking but fine in the shoulders, lol. Good weekend had by all........................
