First post for a newbie. Fished the Finnis Fresh today after all the hype (and a mates big weekend a couple of weeks ago). Disappointing day, only one rat landed, 1 more hookup and a few touches. There were a few rats around to sight cast but they weren't chasing. A couple of decent dead barra floating around for some reason and then we saw a baz around 80-85 on the surface and it didn't look healthy, almost like it was looking for air. Almost got him with the net after sneaking up on him with the electric but old mate touched his tail with the net first and he dived. Everyone else we talked to had similar similar tales, best was an 80cm on the troll

Well the Baz have all been schooling for a few weeks around the three ways there waiting to escape and guess what the water is rising and with more to come down, the floodplains are rising slowly. They are leaving the area and now it's barra netting season once a break in the monsoon happens. I wonder if the pro's will get them out front of the Finnis again?

I thought the pros were kicked out Iive been fishing the finness salt for 15+ years the fishing was better when the pros were in the mouth we had the hole river to ourselves, didn't have Boats with paying passengers pulling up and parking so they block you're casting.

I was up in Darwin that weekend to get some fishing therapy with some darwin mates of mine, did a day and a half around the perons got a bag of goldies lots of cod, a dozen or so mudies and not realy much else. We fished the fresh finnis on the eway home for a few hours on the 22nd around 12 with no luck. Had to go to the Flicking fresh barra farm to satisfy the urge to catch a barra. For a desert dweller I enjoyed it, my PB for a barra is a meir 87 but catching solid fat fish one after another up to 80 was fantastic. Cant wait for the call from the lads for run off

The river is up to the end of the sealed section that leads to the river. Saw a few boats coming out on Saturday arvo, they didn't have much luck as the river is still rising. Its higher than 1.4m at present. There isn't a lot of water upstream so I expect the river to start falling by Tuesday however had a few good falls last night 65mm and this morning copped anout 40 mm in a passing storm. I am flying to Wadeye on Wednesday and will take a look at the floodplain of the Finnis. I expect the main river to turn it on shortly.
