Dan, you can forget about catching Carp on lure - especially hardbodies or soft plastics... except maybe a small fly set- up might just do the trick... like Dogy said!
It won't happen unless you jag one somehow... They just arn't predatory in nature. Bit like the gold fish in the fish tank that won't attack the other fish.... Of all the years I fished the Murray I've never seen one caught on lure.... I reckon it's best to stick to the usual baits for them mate..

They may not be a predator but they are will never let a chance go by. I was on the shores of lake Wyanglla (SP?) near Cowra once flicking a little rapala minnow thingy around and hooked a nice yellowbelly, two casts later I got smashed by what I thought was a bigger yellowbelly only to reel in a bl..dy carp. I'd try small bream/trout lures and if that doesn't work open the can of corn

Down in SA when the carp are feeding out in the shallow water they will readily take small prawn flies presented right in front of their noses. mates of mine stalk them, then cast small black prawn type flies across their noses and they will take them and the fight is worth the effort.
Other wise we used to get them on tiger worms and prawns.
Cheers
Shane

if you get adventurous go out buy your self a cheap recurve bow and some arrows sneak out along the flats throw out some worms mixed in with doe and have a crack at them with the bow great fun and a funny experiance just dont shoot ya self in the foot.

a mate of mine used some baby ones as live bait aiming for yella's and red fin and hooked a few big carp instead, but I think it was an opertunist moment as there were millions of them draining out of a billabong and anyway live baiting with carp is illegal.
Worms are the go.
But I must say the most fun I've had with carp in shallow water involved a 12ga shotty.
Cheers Flicker

Dan I have caught hundreds of Carp on Soft Plastics, And a few on hard bodies.... Just get some SPs that look like worms or Grubs, Shrimp plastics go ok aswell.... Nothing beats the real thing though... As for the Bow fishing cant be beat lots of fun but not really legal... Have to post some pics when I find them

I found that Gulps work well in freah or salt, Tried my fresh ones up here The ones I use to use on Carp, and the Snapper love em. Long black and red with a curly tail at the end, look a little like worms... You fishing a stream or a dam??? If its a dam I would stick to bait, Never had much luck tempting them in dams...
