Post Posted: Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:31 am    Post subject: Best bream lure and presentation technique

Hi all

Am heading off for holidays and will be staying at Lake Macquarie, NSW. Gonna fit some fishing in and am looking for advice on the best hardbody and soft plastic for bream. Already got the Mr Twisters nutted for flathead but hoping to change it up a bit with another species.

Cheers

Matt

Im down that way now & catchin a few,the sqidgy bloodworm & wrigglers are really good in 3 or 4" bounce em off the bottom .The hard bodies are as you would expect are small & as expensive as Barra lures but Hawk make some that do the job & a reasonable price, you can check out some of the bream sites on the net to get an idea, Ive been using 6lb flurocarbon leader chasing bream & landed a good sized flatty on that but the bigger one usually chafe it through, larger models will even eat the fish thats hooked

3" BERKLEY Bass minnows on .5-2.0 gram squidgee finesse heads in the shallows around the sand island and the channel edges. This time of year till easter the prawns run and alot of bream hang around the drop over, sand island and channel. Good colours are Bloodworm,Pearl water melon and pumkinseed.
As mentioned blades go well in the deeper water as well. Fish a light leader and braid on the flats too... 4lb fireline and 2-4lb flurocarbon leaders that are about 2m long. Some good bream to be had down there... :D

Cheers for the replies boys, gonna hit the shops tomorrow and pick up some goodies. One last question - main line to leader knot. Whats the go? Usually use an FG knot up here, but there must be something different for the small stuff??

Cheers

Matt

squidgy blood worm wriggler - best small fish lure ever made.
If you cant get a fish on one of these you wont get one on anything else.

Thanks for the replies - went out the other day and scored a nice bream on a blade. Heading out in the morning again but bait fishing I think (mullet gut.....mmmm).

Hi Max, any indication of the knot strength for the 5 turn surgeon knot? Looks very easy to tie
