Hey fellow FFFer's,
I'm keen to give the Blue holes a crack next week on Tuesday. but have never been and was wondering if any of you guy's have any guidence for me so I don't smash into some rocks and just spend the day drinking cans.
The main thing I want to know is how much water do I need to get into the iner hole and do you fish it over the high and get out or lock your self in for the low and explore the place
I plan to leave from Buff creek and sneak up the coast and show a few of my south mate a good day, hopefully the wind isn't bad.
Any info will be greatly appreciated guy's.

most of my info is from other people on here so i'm not sure how much i should say fishing wise but i'm sure they'll see your post and give you some tips..
you can get into the inner blue hole on any tide apparently, i got in there recently with not much water at all, just go slow and use your sounder to guide you in, i don't know exactly how much water for the outer hole but i know you can't get in on low tide, either lock in over low or head in there on the rising tide..
next tuesday will be big tides i'm not sure how easy that will be - however i've been there on neaps and middle tides and it seemed easy to get in and out..

You can get in and out of the inner hole on any tide. Though the outer hole is best explored on the rising tide.
We fished the entrance of the outer hole on the dropping tide and did ok. This is the entrance on the shaol bay side. The water rushes out of there and there is a massive feeding frenzy there when the tide comes out. We just fished with marabou and also metals. The inner hole well it speaks for its self and your just best exploring it. There is some nice flats and big drop offs so you should find fish through there. We also fished the entrance of this hole all tides and it does ok with big GT's and gueenies.
The other spots i fish in there are from another user so i wont give his spots away. He will see this and post no doubt but not my spots to ruin.
Keep an eye out for tuna on the way to and from the holes. Also the bombies marked in the FFF book at lee point are worth a shot on your way home. We got some good mackies there on the way home.
Good luck and watch the reefs on the dropping tide. Take it easy and you will be right. Dont follow the FFF entrance coordinates as they are way off and you will hit the reef. Trust us we know.

Locking in over the low is the go on the big tides but if it doesnt fire it can be a long wait for water to come back in. On the big heigh tides is good too but more in the mangrove deltas at the back of the holes. Fish amoungst all of the mangrove roots using small soft plastics rigged weedless. Gulp prawns in the copper penny colour work a treat on the big cod and jacks in the area. Usually very good sight fishing with the clear water. Using berly amoungst the tree roots also works well and big jacks and plenty of bream, small snapper or blue salmon usually turn up and the occasional baz. I get a heap of herring from the wharf and mash them up for berley.
Take note of the tide as it is very easy to get stuck in the mangroves and it isnt hard to get lost in amoungst the trees if you dont pay a little attention on the way in as most of the little channels all join up to each other and I have seen people go around in circles. The inner hole is all tide but the outer hole needs about 2m of water for access . Being new I would allow a little bit more. If you fish in amoungst the trees get out of them just after the high as it runs off the reef flats real quick.
Take spin gear as majority of the fishing in there is for small to medium palagics unless you get deep into the mangroves on high tide for jacks, snapper.

biggest tide on tuesday!! tide is from 7m down to 1.88, low is about half hour behind Darwin i hav found, good tides for the runoff fishing, just be carefull and watch the reef, the outer hole is inaccessable below about 2.5m so you should be able to fish it till about 1pm before having to get out safely or stay in. Inner hole will be flowing good at the mouth on low and there will be gt's and queenies everywhere, whatever you throw in will catch uou one!!! some bigger ones sometimes too!!
The mangroves are good with soft plastics, and the little creeks in the inner blue hole as well, got 6 barra there last week and a nice jack. Trick with the tide is to watch the mangroves, once the leaves are all out of the water, theres not much time left.!!
Some good lumps as well on the bottom through the holes, can drop some jigs on them and might get some goldies. Sand bars around the area are good for the pelagics as well, especially at the NE end of the outer hole.
wish i was going, have fun
Smartie

Thanks for all the info guy's, really appreciate it.
I have one last question though, can you access the iner blue hole from the Buff creek side on high tide? or do I have to go around gun point? It's hard to tell in the fish finder book as the pic's look like they're taken on low tide.

You can do it on 7m springs but it can be a bit like a maze if you havent been there before. It could be a good way to explore it. If you want an easier way go into the outer hole on the southern end and cut accross the reef just past the big clump of trees that you can see inbetween the holes. Hard to explain but you will see the opening when you get there. Only on high and incomming tides though!

yes definitely only right on the high and make sure you have good visibility. It is a very flat reef BUT there are some serious bombies that come out of no where. I wouldn't travel over the reef unless you can see the bottom in front of you really.
