Well between boat rego, lisencing, marine biology degree and work i finally managed to go fishing.
Weather was not great evident by the lack of empty boat trailers at Yorkey's but we went for a look anyway. forecasted 15-20 up to a meter inside the reef my guess was 20-25 Water was running about 1.2 and above to 1.4 so going was slow but we manage good speed out to a spot in a blue zone to the north of Oyester reef.
Managed 4 good trout (sorry no pic's) to keep and got out around 3pm so whilst we didn't set the world on fire wasn't to bad a day.
The only other boats seen all day where 17m plus tourist vessals so i'm thinking these blokes are a bit soft over here or not very keen fisherpersons

Harmsey this weekend mate but no fishing house to pack and move.
As for the trout sizes no problem min 38 except footballer being 50 ours where 65 plus and the only keepers we got not bad for a rough shake out trip
One thing i have found is that spear fishing is big and well rewarded so am looking to get into it. Yes you are right about the rules and regs hence the snide remark about biology degree.

hey ray good to hear from you
just a few things to remember for fishing QLD waters
mate make sure your in the right zone green/pink/yellow/blue uhh
ohh and check the size limit for coral trout
ohh and the bag limit for the species
ohh and the total bag limit for the boat
ohh and make sure you remove a pectrol fin
ohh and make sure it was not caught in a reef closure time
ohh and make sure your BAL is 0.00
ohh and your rego is paid
ohh and your licence is current
Seriously, I have nightmares about compiling the Queensland and WA regulations for each new FISH FINDER book. It is a serious headache. How could anyone possibly remember all that stuff or even read through it all out on the water after a couple of beers? Oh I forgot, no beer allowed.
Maybe they are trying to take all the fun out of it so no one goes and stocks can recover
