FLOOD WARNING FOR THE NICHOLSON, CLONCURRY, ALBERT, LEICHHARDT AND FLINDERS RIVERS
Issued at 11:42 AM on Sunday the 11th of January 2009
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane.
Moderate to major flooding is easing slowly on the Albert River at Burketown and
in the Nicholson River at Escott Station. Moderate to major flooding continues
in the Cloncurry and Flinders Rivers.
NICHOLSON/GREGORY/ALBERT
The Albert River at Burketown peaked at 6.5 metres during Friday which is the
highest since 2000, and major flooding is now easing very slowly. The Nicholson
River at Escott Station peaked with major flooding at 10.57 during Thursday
night, and is continuing to ease with moderate flooding. Moderate flooding is
expected to continue at Doomadgee this week with possible further rises. River
levels will remain high at Burketown and Escott Station during this week.
FLINDERS/CLONCURRY/LEICHHARDT
Minor flooding continues to ease in the Leichhardt River at Floraville and major
flooding continues in the Cloncurry River in the Canobie area.
The main flood waters in the Flinders River are now between the Etta Plains and
Walkers Bend area. Renewed rises and major flooding are occurring on the lower
Flinders River at Walkers Bend where a peak of about 13.0 metres is expected
during the latter half of the week, which is the highest in the lower Flinders
River since 1991 which reached 15.23 metres.
Motorists are warned not to attempt to drive through floodwater on roads.

Matt,
I would have to agree!! Also the East Coast will be looking good if not this year but next. Townsville had a good wet season last year and this year we have had 550+mm of rain to date since the Barra Season closed. (263mm in Jan 09 so far, thanks to the Monsoon left over from TC Charlotte)
I am really looking forward to Feb 09 and getting into some Barra again. It makes me drool reading all the NT Barra and Pilbara reports!!

Matt I think about 66 percent of qld is under water at the moment but as you say should be a good barra year, i will be up fishing the sth alligator in late april then back down here to brissy to fish monduran and chase the big girls in there

My mate Greg bought the Burketown pub last year, they have the World Barra Titles on at Easter.........atm if it stays the way it is, you might have to boat in!

a bit like the ettomogah pub just go to the roof and cast cast cast sure to hook up something that way they don't have to leave the pub to fish. but it is just amazing how much water is up that way at the moment i keep hoping it moves into the n/t
