Hi
I am looking at preserving an old fabric type map of NSW that dates back to the early 1900’s.
The map has some interesting gaps in it like:
That small country town where MR KRudd has his office (Canberra??) ….
Some Riverina towns adjacent to and the home of notorious underbelly figures (and my in-laws) are missing (can you guess what they are .....there is at least 7 I can identify...
The Town near Albury on the now Hume Highway that got its name changed after World War 1 (can you guess what it is.....
My Grandfather used it on his return from World War 1 when he travelled widely after being disinherited by his wealthy Irish squatter father who did not approve of him going off and fighting for the King of the British Empire.
Its starting to look a bit ratty so any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated to preserve this great personal historical item

A fairly specialised task youre looking at there Hawkeye..may I suggest going to have a talk to someone in the Darwin Museum..they would be able to give you some advice.
I do know that moisture is the enemy of any fabric/paper material
I do like the Title Cyclists, Travellers and Motorist Map...my guess is there were a lot of cyclists, a fair few travellers and not a whole lot of motorists then

Hi Hawkeye,
Yes me too, my first idea about it would be to call the Museum in Darwin, and ask if you could see the people from the conservation department to show them the maps and ask for advices.
They are usually pretty helpful, but are also very often overworked due to the fact that they are only a very small team. So I am not sure how they would respond at the moment?
Very god people nonetheless.
Let us know how you goes?
Have a good day,
Pecheur
