its a larval tapeworm (plerocercoid stage). Develops into adult tapeworm in gut of shark or dolphin. Harmless to humans because we are not the right host. Some species not found in oz can infect humans. It's in just about all the fish up here. No worries- if worried just cook it properly.

Makes you think twice about eating numus or sashimi or any raw fish.
Incidently, pork has trichina worm larvae which does infect humans, so if you eat pork make sure you cook it really well.

I have seen a lot of worms similar in Blue Salmon, especially from the mouth of the Finnis. Mainly throughout the flesh.
Has a bit of a yellow head and an extended white tail, similar to those in pic, can pull them out, but havn't seen them like that. Makes you want to check a bit more thoroughly.

Long time ago,30 odd years, fishing at sharks bay,w.a. around Steep point we found lots of parasite worms in the snapper caught and filleted.Mainly along the spine if you were quick with the knife you could just about see them duck as the blade went past their head. Makes you realise why fish shops in Perth would advertise COLD WATER or SOUTHERN CAUGHT snapper. Back then we did not seem to notice things like that too much

Hi MattyA. They probably are different. They may be a nematode (round worm). The tape worm larvae (the yellow ones) are only found in the flesh of fish including barra from marine environments (not fresh water).
