Went to put the boat in at the Dinah ramp on thursady for a fish with my youngest (snuck him out of school for the day ). Pulled up to get the boat ready and found a very large shark head just off to the side of the rigging bay Place stunk...who does that?
Any way went to put in only to be told by some folks in a drilling rig that the ramp was closed! Apparently I didn't see the add in the paper (me and a heap of other blokes) So we went to buff creek and shot over to Hope. Bait was hard to come by but we managed a few mullet. No Barra to report, got bitten off by a small shark and landed a shovel nose that went back in. Got a few crabs in the pot all were female and all but one empty
Got a question for the outboard guru's. In my haste to get to Buff creek I filled up my spare fuel jerry with that ethanol blend fuel. Will that give me problems? My motor is a 30 Tohatsu 2 stroke.

I was at Dinah yesterday and that shark head was still there. I wanted to move it but the tide was out and I could not bear the stench from 10mtrs let alone carry it 50 metres down to the water.
I do not understand it, it was a Lemon Shark which presents no threat to man and would not even be any good as a trophy to the 'Great White Hunter' who killed it.
This is one sure way that we will lose access to a good boat ramp, I feel sorry for the residents down there with the stench. Not the first time I have seen fish carcasses dumped near the houses. Plus all the rubbish that gets left down there. Rubberheads !!

Why is that DO?? Screw the 'residents' I say Ramp was there a LONG TIME before the poxy development was there. That's the same line of thought as people that buy a house near the airport under the flight path, then spend the rest of their life winging about 'noise' and trying to get the airport closed down
Having said that - no excuse for 'littering' - anywhere.
I'm interested that the ramp was 'closed' due to a drilling rig Anyone got anymore info on what the go is there???

Slug,
I totally agree with respect to the ramp being there first. I remember going to that ramp with no houses around it.
That said though, if people keep leaving cr.p around etc, it will only give voice to anybody who wants to limit the use of the ramp. That would really suck as the litter is not necessary and people are too damn lazy to walk to the bins that are provided there. Let alone the added stupidity of leaving fish/shark bits around to attract crocs.

Can't help there Slug. I have no idea what they were doing. The workers rocked up just as I was going to put in. They said the ramp was closed and I may not get back out. I didn't want to risk it so went else where.

You'd like to think this is not the first sign of 'things to come' with the rampant industrialization of harbour ..............

It would have been the drill /pylon rig there checking out the subsea ground firmness and checking on how dep the mud is.....
They are getting ready for the pontoon...... looks like we will end up with a semi rigid one (pontoon that is)
They would have needed to close off the ramp for OH&S reasons...no issues there... just like when they close of teh chanel island ramp when a gas boat comes in

Call it what you will - smells to me like the beginning of 'sharing' of our ramps with industry (that we never had to do in the past - other than the occasional closure of the Channel Island one for the LNG ship).
Oh well, another nail in the coffin for the once great town of Darwin .........

It really just does keep on getting better. I went down the video shop on my pushy last night and took the torch with me.
Wanted to show my mate up from down south the Redclaw in our local ponds. Shone the torch in the water and some moron has dumped a queenfish (whole, not filleted or anything) and what looked like a whole small mackerel (whole). They were dumped right on the edge, and in a freshwater pond.
A real waste of fish, that really should have gone in a bin, or better still released if they were not going to be eaten.
