these ugly fellows dont get as mutch publicity as their glamourous neighbours and true it can sometimes be like pulling in a piece of sea weed but how many 3 second bursts of enjoyment have they given anglers ?
many - for those glorious 3 seconds your brain starts conjuring images of huge barra maybye even a jew such is the hitting power ... until you realise its not ...
and they are so ugly , i love taking home a few of them and wathcing all the females squirm when they look into the esky and you tell them its dinner

I reckon the old Cod is a great fish for a feed. Catch them down the Mouth of the South on lures and more than once they have sucked me into thinking they were a horse barra for the first three seconds. Find they are a pr..k to fillet though

Strangely enough, when I lived down south it was bright colour pictures of "clean" estuary cod caught in sandy creeks on lures that really fired up my imagination about northern fishing.
Little did I know.
Nowadays cod fire up my imagination when they are crumbed nuggets dipped in cocktail sauce, matched with icy white wine.
They are a great fish and very hardy - they will probably still be swimming around after we humans are long gone.
