well finally the drought has broken. went out to bottlewasher this morning and got my first ever jewfish. we were using a bit of frozen squid and pilchards to try to temp them and were losing pilchards as quick as we could put them on a hook, id given up on my squid but obviously one jewie to a shine to it. the swell was interesting out there to say the least, no standing up in the boat that's for sure! the jewie went about 70cm but dunno what weight.Being from outback NSW originally its been a steep learning curve trying to fish in saltwater. I got my first ever boat this year as well so its all happened at once and then add my three kids into the mix and there's some hectic times aboard my old boat. but that's what its all about i reckon. I'm stoked that Ive lived in Darwin now for 5 years and this was my first ever keeper out of the harbor. a mate and i have been doing some miles lately for a fish and then a last minute dash produced a fish. just goes to prove that persistence pays off when it comes to fishing. i did have to sacrifice my anchor to the reef god though as no manner of pulling swearing or dragging could move it. oh well! a necessary loss i think for my first ever keeper in the NT. apart from my boat there was only 3 other boats out. i guess the swell had something to do with it.
hopefully worthy of a Daiwa Saltist Entry
