As with Mudskipper I too have had a trip into the Daly River Community Med Centre from Woolianna. For some reason I had a heap of line of the reel and the first guide (cant remember maybe to much sun) and I have gone to step up on my seat to have a cast and stood on the line whilst holding a squidgy between my fingers. Line pulled tight lodging the hook in one side of my middle finger under the pad so the point was under the skin on the other side of my finger. The missus was to queasy to help push through so back to Woolianna we went. Adrian couldn't push it through for insurance reasons so and no one else capable around it off to the med centre I went. After being needled up the barefoot nurse used a pair of rusty 12in bolt cutters to cut the hook. Also used a scapel to free up the point through the tough skin of the pad.
Other than the rusty bolt cutters (they were not too bad and I didn't get an infection so all good) the nurse was very professional. Would recommend a visit by all if injured down that way.

I have had it happen once...
The day before I was getting married I took the wifes uncle down to a billabong near litchfield park for some barra action. Well we shot a pig on the way down and hooked a fish with the first cast Then things went down hill......
I went to get the barra of the lure... barra jumped around... uncle pulled on the rod all this = hook in my finger.
Fished all day with it in the finger (next to my ring finger) then went to the RDH to get it removed. Got to the wedding practice 20mins late...
I have never used a barbed hook since.

First barra ever caught managed to impale the treble of a halco scorpion firmly in finger while still attached, was only 45cm. Was on my own and managed to remove barra and took a photo of the fish (first barra is first barra even if they impale you). After trying to push the barb through with pliers (unsuccessfully) Used the same principle as using the string yank with pliers by pushing down hard on the shank and pulling, the hook easily came out Should have done that the first time.
The things we learn.

have had it happen twice , first time was in Weipa when a small barracuda flipped at the right time and jagged my finger and proceeded to flap all around still attached, luckily the barb had come out the other side of my finger so it was a simple cut off and pull out job. the second time was at Tommycut while holding a barra with the boga grips in my right hand admiring him he did the barra rattle and shake and the next thing I knew the lure was hanging out of my left hand, he threw it hard enough for the barb to again go right through so it was another simple removal but it just shows how easy it happens.

Well I was stupid enough to impale myself with a 8/0 hook while handlining on a charter out at Groote.
Some how I managed this feat whilst casting the handline with a sinker the size and weight of a besser block attatched to the end of it Skipper took one look and headed for home, back to the clinic at Alyangula.
Lady doc tried but couldn't force the hook through, my builder tried too, and all this without propper anastetic, she jabbed it and jabbed it but it didn't numb.
Eventually she numbed it and the nurse convinced her to try the fishing line method [as the doc's preferred method was to medivac me back to Darwin ]
Hook came out, but I don't think she was happy when she saw me at the club that night

had a most dreadful situation with a treble just recently CB might have mentioned it in a post but i'll share my point of view. A treble off a halco laser pro got lodged into my thigh and if you own one of them you know they are a large hook. Being pushed in all the way to the bend of the treble i knew it was going to hurt coming out so i wanted it out there and then. I avoided pulling it out myself and passed the oppurtunity to CB, he was hesitant at first but grabbed the pliers and assumed the position, with a supposibly count to five he decides to pull at an unexpected three and it didnt come out but it bl..dy hurt he goes for a second pull and out it comes i managed to suppress the pain but i was screaming inside, had to be done wouldnt of got any medical assistance being trapped in king creek plus they would of only pulled it out anyway. i had the feeling CB got pleasure out of that

Only way to do it Seeker, especially if you're remote or stranded, pull it out straight away. Got nailed in Cape York in 2006, embedded a B52 in my finger with a barra on the other set still thrashing around, very panful and s..t it took some pullng out as it was embedded in bone I reckon. Mate reckons I near busted my finger pulling it out it was on that sick of an angle with so much pressure, unfortunately only got an after photo as I was too preoccuppied with getting it out, 1000 kms to the nearest hosi!
