Hey all just a quick question. Wondering how many people out there have eaten chinamen fish? If ya did, any casualties and did it taste alright?

Small ones are pretty good but the big ones seems a bit ordinary. :cheers:

In Qld they are big ciguatera carriers and noone would dare, especially with the larger specimens... unsure about over west

better eating if they are bled before they are iced, they have a thick fillet and if you thin them down they can be cooked up a treat
there a great fish too catch and not bad on the tooth

Cheers, got one last night that didn't release so yea like all my fish bled it out processed it and packed it away. Blood looked a bit dif to most fish i thought, but it was dark :-?

Now i know a few people have eaten em i'll give it a crack!

If you've caught it out west here mate you're as safe as houses, like Dodgy says the big ones can get a little dry but still fine table fare.
By the way bl..dy nice fish 8-)

real good fun at that size.

To my knowledge, and intelligence supports this, there has never been a single reported case of ciguetera poisoning in WA.

A friend from QLD ate some Chinaman he caught over that way and copped a dose of poisoning. Him and his missus spent two weeks in hospital.

He was lucky cos when they tried it they noticed a tingling on thier lips and decided not to swallow.

His advice, put it in your mouth and have a bit of a chew first. If you get any unusual effects in yer mouth, spit and head to the nearest hospital.

Makes it kinda fun huh :mrgreen:

Tasted good even for it's size, was actually suprised. So not only did it bl..dy rip on the line she ate well! Sweet! :applause:

Yea got few fillets of it CB and sum R/E fillets i'll bring back for ya! On our way to the Montebello Isles so as long as weather plays the game could be an interesting morning!! :fishy:

feed some to a cat it is suppose to be lethal on them if it's alive the next day then have a feed if not get another cat and keep feeding and replacing the cat until the fish is gone then go catch another chinamen and repeat the process. :rofl:
