Just wondering if they are found up this way? I've heard of them being caught in W.A. Its a species I wouldn't mind having a crack at if they were around. I saw a picof one in the Fish Finder and it sparked my interest.
Any ifo greatly appreciated. Might be able to save myself a trip overseas to target them.
Cheers

Harmsey,
Thanks a heap, the pic in the FF mag was on the Coburg page so I thought that may be the case but wasn't sure. I would have thought if they were up that way they'd be some closer to Darwin as well. I wasjust reading some links to guided packages overseas in Los Roques...sounds like awesome fun, but very expensive ould be one for the retirement fund. So many species to catch, so little time.
Cheers

Craig, give LR a miss and head to Christmas Island (the pacific version).
It's a lot cheaper than going to all the way to LR, although that would be an amazing trip and they have Giant Tarpon.
Christmas Island can be done for around $3500, that's everything included, all meals, guides, accomodation. Although you need to fly from Brisbane so that adds a litle extra.
You could probably do it cheaper if you book direct with the lodges over there and give the tour agency a miss.
I'll be there in 21 days, but who's counting. I may even catch a bonefish if I can tear myself away from the 60 pound GT's that roam the flats.
If anyone gets interested in heading to Oxley Island, let me know. It's a dream of mine to get over there this year.
As Craig mentioned, any info on NT bones would be much appreciated.

We get them here in the Pilbara! And ol' Pumkin head the Permit too! Just that I haven't got one... I have heard of bones being caught in the Territory though.
have you tried Milkies? They go like the clappers too....

There are also lots of bonefish at the Cocos Islands. Also Ashmore and Scott reef. Have caught lots of milkfish over the years when I feel like having a bit of fun.

If you pass through Canarvon in Western Australia, you can fish for bone fish off the Jetty.
The gutter close to shore.... between the Mangroves the Jetty emerges from.... and the Sand island the jetty crosses over as it goes out to deeper water.... the in comming afternoon tide December....

Craig,
Heard of bones around the Wessels and Gove. I would be keen on a trip to Oxley to Flyfish the flats. As far as proven bonefishing destinations X-mas Island or New-caledonia. We do get a few Permit or snub-nosed dart close to Darwin though.

Caught one on the flats at a spot called Sandy Bay on Croker Is when I lived there about 15 years ago, on a drifted prawn head of all things . At first I thought it was some new breed of steroid pumped whiting but realised my mistake after a little reading (Goadby) and showing the photos to a fly fisher mate later on. I think the combination of big expanses of white sand and crystal water around the Croker group of islands would have to be good.

Like Harmesy have seen them out Coburg region but haven't had any luck with them. Mal from the Hyland C has told me some good stories about the Oxley region as well The old man (Rossco) used to nail them over in Gove so i'll see if he can add anything to that story......unless he reads this and replies....

Yes, they are around Gove. Places to try, East Woody, Wirrawoy end of Town Beach (caught a number there), sand spits in the harbour and offshore Islands. I caught my 1st one over there in 1976 fishing on a sand spit with squid! I haven't looked for them in Darwin but I imagine a place like the sandbar off Cullen Bay might have some as it looks loke some of the places I have caught them. Attached is an old photo I dug up.
