I remember a while back we were having a discussion regarding using berley. Has anyone had any good or bad results since then. I have used one of those mesh pots a few times and it just seemed to attract plague amounts of sharks.
Just wonder what everyone else thinks.

I only berley up when I'm fishing for Bluebone (tuskies) with prawn and crab shells anything else is inviting the boys in brown coats around here.

only ever use berley pellets for land based fishing at breams works really well its coming up to that time off year for them as well, but yeah never had luck out on the reefs like everyone else has said attracts the sharks

when im out at the reefs i tie 2 cans of cat food [fish] to the anchor chain and that seems to work i punch some holes in each can. i have started to make my own cans now with tuna oil and pellets and pollock in the cansseems to do fine.

Whenever I'm reef fishing I always have a pretty good berley trail running out the back, fish frames from the trip before , old bait etc.
With a livie or pillie out either under a baloon or just in the current.
Nearly always get a couple of sharks but I wouldn't say heaps more than without berley, I think its worth a couple of sharks for all the other fish you can attract with burley.
Its mainly the palagics you are trying to attract so it doesn't affect the bottom fishing too much in the deeper water but it can stir up the reefies in the shallower spots.
Unless I'm getting too many sharks and nothing of value then I'll keep doing it.
Cheers Flicker
