hi all
Caught this beauty near Thursday Island around May this year. took 20mins or so to capture with 24kg outfit. Both fish and fisher were quite exhausted afterwards. Previously we had caught a 27kg GT and i thought that it was a fish of a life time then we managed a double hook up but this blokes twin succeded in outsmarting my fellow fisherman and escaped at the boat. no thanks to the rudder post though as the line became caught around it. My old favorite halco laser pro, although looking worse for wear still remains at the top of my tackle box and first choice to use. Most of those teeth marks are from macks and big dogtooth tuna.
cheers
Pagey

Hey Pagey, nice fish. I feel your pain, we managed a a couple around that size off a particular shoal very close to where you are. Funnily enough we seem to have similar fishing clothes too. I landed mine on 15kg mono. I hooked mine on a brand spanker Rapala Xrap Red head.
We didn't have the scales but had a guess at 35kg. It's good to see yours and the actual weight so i can a better estimate mine, what are everyone's thoughts? I was in a hurry to get mine back in the water for a release. Unfortunately the photo's don't do justice to the thickness and i think only someone with experience with these fish could estimate it closely.
Well done again Pagey

We dont get em that big around Darwin
I have seen pictures of a couple of VW-sized GTs that came off Vernon Island reefs years ago. I think fishing pressure prevents the fish getting that big close to population centres. Can't imagine why anyone would kill the big ones tho.
You would think there would still be some monsters on those reefs between Leaders Creek and Melville Island - there is a lot of country out there.
