Corroboree Park Challenge 2011
Had fun with a lazy approach, up a little late on Saturday then off to Corroboree Tavern to register, arrived about 9am and filled in the forms, checked out the prizes and picked which ones we were going to take home, Ha!
Got to Corroboree billabong about 10am, Jordan drove the boat off the trailer then came and picked me up, we connected the electric and headed off downstream past the houseboats to have a bit of a go, there was a little action a few barra feeding, boofing, but after a bit of a troll we decided to flick some frogs across a likely looking patch of lilies, first cast saw our first strike, a good one too, spat the lure back at me.
Didn’t take long and Jordan boated the first little Toga, had a bit of a scrap, but was fun,

let him go then got a bigger one straight away, almost every cast saw a fish attack the lure, there were a few little barra having a go under the lilies as well, but all were hard to hook.

We decided to head off through the cutting and downstream to a good reliable spot, only trolled for about 5 mins when we had a double hookup, unfortunately mine was a Powertail while Jordan snagged a nice little 62cm Barra, on the board at last, flogging me up again.

Cruised around a bit, I got my first, on the board at last,

caught a few more smaller ones and a few Powertail, decided to head back to the Lillies for a flick before pulling the boat out and heading back to the tavern.
They were still there and nailing the frogs, got a couple of good Toga and even a little rat Barra on a frog, Caught up on the young feller a bit. Always a contest now, can’t go fishing without being let know I am being beaten!!! Luckily it doesn’t happen all that often yet!! He’s still learning.

Back at the Tavern, had a nice meal a few beers, chatted with a few about what had been caught, heard of a couple of nice fish, but a lot were still out there, somewhere!!
Had a good nights sleep then up early before the sun to get to Hardies and have a go, beautiful morning, we cruised along with the electric, got a few hits but nothing solid.

Made it down to a favourite patch of lilies, trolled over a little snag and bang, Jordan was on, good fish too, at least 75cm, came to the surface and shook its head, then almost back to the boat spat it, damn, had bent the hook with the shake. Never mind, set off again, had only gone 20m and I had a hit, got him in, nice fat little Barra.

Coupla pics and set off again, trolled back and forth a couple of times for a few hits but no hookups, went round the corner to the next patch and bang I’m on again, another one just over 60cm, right back in the race with the young feller.

Agent 99 was getting a little towey at this stage coz she had only managed a small Powertail!
We cruised off down the billabong and had a go at a few more regular haunts, trolled past a snag and bang, 99 was on, got a nice little Saratoga, still no Barra.

Had a bit of a flick around a little patch of lilies, got a couple of small Barra and a Saratoga, could see them cruising around, headed back to the deeper water and set off trolling again, bang, I was on, off the line went, peeled from the spool, good fish! Gave a good account of itself and stayed down, coupla good runs then we got a view of her, 80cm easy, heart in mouth stuff as she jumped right at the boat and went crazy, the young feller had the net and I managed, eventually to steer her in, yay! Best fish from Hardies so far. Jordan was shaking holding the net, didn’t want to do anything wrong, he’s getting better at netting them.

Off we set back up the billabong again trolling, round the corner and 99 was on, good fish, peeled a bit of line, damn, another bigger Powertail, oh well.
We started heading back and Jordan was getting a hit every time we passed one spot, did 3 laps and pulled in two 60’s and missed another,

99 and I zilch, the lure was working, I lost mine the same on a snag just after the bigger fish.

Pulled the boat out and headed to the tavern for a beer and the weigh in, quite a few people there, some good fish weighed too, even the juniors had fish of 80cm. Was a good coupla days, we landed over 20Barra and some good sized Saratoga, will be back next year for the comp, some great prizes, might have to head out again in a coupla weeks to have a go as well I reckon.
I think the young feller outdid me for numbers for the weekend, but i definately beat him with the biggest, lucky he lost that one though i reckon.
Oh well, maybe next time

Good on ya Agent89. Hardies is a great spot, and there is definetly some big fish about. I can't wait til my boy is a bit older and is into the Bazzas with me.

yeah Ando its great, we had a ball, my young feller has been in the boat with me since he was 2!!
Starting to get the hang of it now, problem is i am having to fish harder to beat him. But knowledge still beats enthusiasm most of the time, just knowing where the fish will be hiding and being able to read the water better and cast a little more accurately usually gives me the upper hand.
wont be long though!!!

Yeah, I've had my boy in a few times now (he's 2). So far I've had a couple of bags of squidgies, a brag mat and a fillet knife (in sheath) go over the side, and more beers tipped out than I care to remember. I had to tie his little rod to my bimini with 60lb line the other week just in case. Sure enough, it saved it.
