i have to take my boat to darwin to get a bit of work done to it and i thought that i may as well make a trip of it and go via kakadu for a fish. even though i have lived in the NT for 40 years i have never camped in a public camp ground or fished where there are other people, are there any etiquette issues i should be aware off? are you allowed to have a camp fire? any suggestions on where to camp and fish?

Hi Sheps, Most of the places have signs up as what you can and can't do , All the spots I have camped at and had a look at do allow camp fires . We recently fished the east Alligator fresh and also fished Yellow waters but we based ourselves at Jabaroo and just done day trips , But the camp ground at Merl looked ok with fire pits there and big plot to camp in . Yellow Waters you will have to stop at the Caravan Park at Cooinda as I am not sure if there is a camp ground there. Shady has fire pits and has been firing in the fresh and the camp ground is great there with good toilets. Corroberee you can camp at the ramp or at the tav on the highway. Hope this helps Parksy

I think a 5m boat will be fine , and you will just have to have a look at the ruling on the tredle hooks but I think that they will be ok . I asked the fisheries guy at the boat show and he said it was fine to fish with hard bodied lures with trebles on them in the billabongs in Kakadu . It is just Shady Camp that you will have to have a look at as the rules change there as it is the Mary River system . Parksy

Id be looking at the vic n roper if ya based in ktown. Or if you have a little more time up ya sleve liimen bight. The build up bazza fishing can be good at times. Pockos beach might be another option too but you need 2 vechiles for the beach launch. If you want to put a toga on the caught list theres plenty of bongs out roper way.

Pococks Beach , Mouth of the West Alligator river. I used to go down there when old Fred Pocock was still alive , he was a great bloke ,I haven't been down there for well over 25 years I guess things may have changed a bit since then. NP&WS tried for along time to get him kicked out of there. Even after he died they wanted his body exhumed and moved out of there.

Yeh your allowed to fish with trebles! Dont use live bait, throw nets, spears or pots in the park or you will get in a bit of trouble. I fish Yellow Waters quite often 5m boat should be alright, just look out for all the reeds near the ramp, apparently big croc about the same as your boat has been sniffing around there lately. Good fishing, you can see the barra swimming in schools around the boat...(if only throw net..or spears) its only 50kms from Jabbas, so 100kms round trip.. East All is aight, just dont give it flat cause there a couple spots on fresh water side where u will have to trim up...havnt been down the salt (down) yet but apprently big rock bar where you will only be able to pass on correct tides.
